Max Verstappen has once again attempted to cool the swirling rumours linking him to Mercedes.

The four-time world champion reiterated his commitment to Red Bull Racing after fresh speculation erupted following a very public paddock conversation between his father, Jos Verstappen, and Toto Wolff during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

The sighting immediately reignited chatter about a possible future move to Mercedes, especially with the Silver Arrows currently boasting the strongest car on the grid after winning all four races so far this season.

Verstappen Breaks His Silence

Asked directly whether he still saw himself racing in Formula 1 in 2027, Verstappen left little room for doubt.

“Yes, certainly. Unless very crazy things happen, but I’m not assuming that. I hope everyone keeps their word. But I can confirm that I am staying in Formula 1,” Verstappen said to The Telegraph.

The Dutchman also reiterated his long-standing affection for Red Bull.

“I’m in no rush, you know. Ideally, I’d like to stay associated with Red Bull for the rest of my life; I’ve always said that,” Verstappen added.

“But making that decision doesn’t have to happen today or tomorrow.”

Verstappen stressed that his future plans extend beyond simply choosing where he races.

“Whether it’s here or somewhere else, there’s much more involved than just the Formula 1 contract. I’m talking about all the other projects as well,” he explained.

“I’m in talks with Red Bull about those too. I’m very relaxed about it myself. We shouldn’t make it too dramatic. Even if it all comes to nothing, that’s fine with me. That’s my attitude towards life.”

Mekies Dismisses Mercedes Rumours

Earlier this week, Laurent Mekies also dismissed suggestions that the Jos Verstappen-Toto Wolff conversation was some sort of calculated power play.

“As much as it may sound exciting to see that from the outside, I really don’t think there is an intention particularly behind it,” Mekies said.

“If any of these guys want to have a chat, it’s going to be a story anyway. So, we speak all the time with Max and with Jos, and it’s completely natural that they can have a conversation with Toto.”

Still, despite Verstappen being contracted to Red Bull until the end of 2028, the speculation surrounding his long-term future refuses to disappear.
