The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to conduct the re-NEET examination on June 21, and with less than a month left for the exam, the agency has adopted a “zero trust” approach. It has intensified surveillance measures to prevent any irregularities following the alleged paper leak, sources told CNN-News18.
Sources added that NTA is facing a major logistical challenge in conducting the re-exam. The agency is carrying out heightened monitoring, regular audits and extensive social media surveillance to plug potential loopholes ahead of the examination.
Officials involved in reviewing the system said conducting a national-level entrance examination within a month is an enormous task, especially since such examinations usually require nearly six months of preparation.

Sources said senior NTA officials are being briefed daily in high-level review meetings chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with participation from multiple departments and representatives of various social media platforms.
The agency has reportedly revamped several systems and processes following the controversy, introducing extensive cross-checking mechanisms, regular audits and continuous monitoring.
“NTA has heightened surveillance and strengthened all protocols to plug every possible loophole,” sources said.
Sources in the ministry, aware of the developments regarding the meeting with NTA officials, said that the decision to appoint new Secretaries and Directors General in the agency is aimed at ensuring the foolproof conduct of the examination this time.
Sources added that, unlike previous incidents, the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak has served as a hard lesson for both the ministry and the testing agency.
“There are certain changes required to make the functioning of the agency more robust, reformed and effective,” a source told CNN-News18.
According to NTA officials, had the leak originated from examination centres, printing presses or banks, the entire question paper would have surfaced instead of only portions of it.
The re-NEET examination was announced after allegations of irregularities and paper leak in the earlier NEET-UG exam triggered protests among students and parents, leading to multiple investigations, including a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
