Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday held departmental meetings in hybrid mode from her official residence, Mukhymantri Jan Seva Sadan, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and reduction in vehicular pollution.
Officials said several senior ministers and department heads conducted meetings virtually as part of the Delhi government’s push to encourage remote working and online official interactions wherever feasible under the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” initiative.
Last week, Gupta announced a slew of measures, including two days of work from home for government offices, use of Metro trains by ministers and officers on Mondays, and a voluntary ‘no-vehicle day’ every week.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also worked from home and conducted their official meetings online during the day, officials said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh chaired a virtual review meeting to discuss healthcare and nutrition-related initiatives aimed at strengthening public health delivery mechanisms in the city, according to a statement.
During the meeting, Singh reviewed proposals and ongoing schemes related to immunisation, maternal healthcare, child nutrition, family planning, and nutritional support for leprosy patients.
Officials from the health department also briefed the minister on the implementation status of various welfare and healthcare programmes being run across Delhi, the statement added.
New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal also joined a review meeting through video conference from his residence along with senior department officials to assess civic preparations for an upcoming summit expected to bring foreign delegates to the national capital.
Officials discussed arrangements related to sanitation, beautification, traffic management, and other civic facilities to ensure smooth conduct of the event, the statement said.
The statement added that the meeting was organised in line with the Delhi government’s recent emphasis on virtual official meetings following the prime minister’s appeal encouraging such practices to save fuel and reduce unnecessary travel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 11, appealed to citizens to curb the use of fuel-driven vehicles amid the global energy crisis triggered by tensions in West Asia.
The prime minister suggested reducing petrol and diesel consumption, using Metro rail services in cities, carpooling, increasing the use of electric vehicles, utilising railway services for parcel movement, and working from home to conserve foreign exchange.
