CBSE Rejects Claims Of Faulty Class 12 Answer Sheet Scanning Under On-Screen Marking System

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday dismissed reports alleging that answer sheets evaluated under its new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system were not scanned properly due to inadequate preparation and shortage of time.

Calling the allegations “factually incorrect”, the Board said the entire evaluation process was conducted under strict supervision and in accordance with established procedures.

In a statement shared on X, CBSE said every stage of the OSM system — including scanning, quality checks, marking and final evaluation — was carried out in a structured and monitored manner.

CBSE further stated that it remains committed to ensuring “fairness, transparency and integrity” in the examination and evaluation process, adding that all procedures were undertaken with due diligence and under constant supervision.

The Board also urged the public to rely only on official sources for verified information.

CBSE said: “A claim is circulating in the media that the scanning of answer books under OSM was not carried out properly due to inadequate preparation and paucity of time. #CBSEFactCheck: This claim is factually incorrect. CBSE is a responsible national institution committed to ensuring fairness, transparency and integrity in the examination and evaluation process. Every stage of the On-Screen Marking system, including scanning, quality checks, marking, and evaluation, was undertaken as per established procedures, with due diligence and under the constant supervision of the Board. Always refer to official sources for verified information.”

The CBSE announced the Class 12 board exam results on May 13, with more than 85 per cent of students successfully passing this year. However, the overall pass percentage saw a decline of over three percentage points compared to last year. This year also marked the first time the Board conducted the complete evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets using the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

Following the declaration of results, lakhs of students dissatisfied with their scores applied for revaluation and requested photocopies of their answer sheets. Over the last two days, however, technical glitches on CBSE’s main servers have led to confusion and concern among students and parents.

Many users reported that the usual result portals were inaccessible, prompting the Board to activate a separate IT-secured link for revaluation applications. Although the process for obtaining photocopies of answer sheets officially began on May 19, students have faced persistent issues on the main website, results.cbse.nic.in, including login failures, delayed OTPs, and captchas not loading properly.

In some cases, payment gateways were also temporarily disabled, adding to the anxiety among parents and students. Social media platforms have been flooded with complaints about login difficulties, while the technical team continues efforts to resolve the problems.

Students have now been advised to avoid unofficial or incorrect links and instead use the dedicated internal IT portal to apply for marks verification and revaluation directly.
