Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to get their hands on the Premier League title after Man City’s 1-1 draw at Southampton left the Gunners mathematically out of reach for the closest competitiors.
Pandemonium ensued as the Gunners, who were glued to the telly during City’s visit of the Cherries, were confirmed as the winners of the English top-flight after their prolonged wait.
Arsenal amassed 82 points in 37 outings this season and are five points celar of chasing city with just a game left to play in the ongoing season.
Arsenal, who ended runners-up thrice on the trot in the previous seasons, crossed the finish line as Mikel Arteta and Co. got the better of the persistent Man City, coahced by Arteta’s former mentor Pep Guadiola.
Guardiola also confirmed his exit fromt he club after nine seasons incharge of the Mancunian side, as he looked to take the title charge to the final game as he has done multiple times while chasing, however, his departure was extended an anti-climatic exit as City failed to better Bournemouth in the side’s penultimate fixture this season
The crown brings an end to the Gunners’ wait for the English top-flight title since 2004 when former Arsene Wenger clinched the golden PL trophy for going unbeaten in the season. And it is poetical that the man to realise the long-time Gunenr dream, Arteta, played the most important part of his playing career under the charismatic Frenchman.
Arsenal will be extended the traditional guard of honour given to the champions on the final day of the season on the 24th of May at Selhurst Park where Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace will honour the new champions of the most followed league competition in the world.
