Leaders of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden along with India participated in the third India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo. According to officials, this summit will give a new direction to the strategic partnership between India and Nordic countries in areas like technology, green energy, blue economy, defence, space and Arctic cooperation. Prime Minister Modi is on a five-nation tour of UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15 to 20. After Norway, he will go to Italy on the last leg of his tour.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this was the first meeting of the two leaders after Prime Minister Frostadottir assumed office. Renewable energy, digital technology, innovation, Arctic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people ties were also discussed in the conversation.

Both the leaders discussed increasing cooperation in areas like renewable energy, climate change, water management, green shipping, digitalization and food processing. PM Modi said that in the coming years, better coordination can be seen between the two countries in the fields of fintech, industry, defense and innovation. He also invited Danish pension funds to increase investment in India. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both the countries agreed to further strengthen relations under Green Strategic Partnership. The two leaders also discussed cooperation in new and emerging technologies, communication, startups, education and defense sectors.
In the field of water management, the joint initiative between India and Denmark to set up ‘Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers’ in Varanasi was also reviewed. This project is being run in partnership with the Government of India, IIT-BHU and the Government of Denmark. Nordic countries include Denmark, Finland, Iceland, norway And Sweden is included. The combined GDP of these five countries is more than 1.9 trillion dollars and these countries are considered global leaders in the field of renewable energy and sustainable marine management.
