There are playoff games… and then there are nights like this.
There is simply no point in trying to encapsulate the utter madness that descended upon the Paycom Center tonight in mere words. But, I will try my best.
The two best seeds in the entire NBA. Two of the best players in the world. Two overtimes — Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, where the OKC Thunder were pitted against the San Antonio Spurs, was the definition of NBA Playoff basketball.
And when the madness finally settled inside the Paycom Center, it was Victor Wembanyama standing tallest of all after stealing OKC’s Thunder.

The 22-year-old phenom produced a career-defining playoff performance, exploding for 41 points and 24 rebounds to lead San Antonio to a stunning 122-115 victory over the defending NBA champions in an unforgettable double-overtime slugfest.
Wemby Takes Over The Playoffs
Every time OKC looked ready to seize control, Wembanyama answered with something outrageous.
A chasedown block. A fadeaway jumper. A ridiculous logo three.
And then came the dagger.
With the Thunder threatening to escape in the first overtime, Wembanyama buried a cold-blooded three-pointer to force a second extra period, sucking the life out of the arena in a moment eerily reminiscent of Stephen Curry at his most ruthless.
He then scored nine of the Spurs’ 14 points in the second overtime to finish off the masterpiece.
SGA Struggles, Then Responds
To his credit, Shai nearly dragged OKC back from the dead.
After managing just four first-half points on dreadful shooting, the Thunder superstar erupted late to help erase a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit. But even his late heroics were not enough.
SGA finished with 24 points, though efficiency remained a major issue throughout the night.
Alex Caruso’s Incredible Surprise Show
While Wembanyama owned the headlines, Alex Caruso kept Oklahoma City alive almost single-handedly.
The veteran guard delivered a legacy game-worthy two-way performance, pouring in a team-high 31 points in just 32 minutes while shooting 8-of-14 from beyond the arc.
He defended Wembanyama, disrupted passing lanes and hit clutch shots all night long.
But in the end, the ‘Alien’ zapped the Thunder.
The Spurs now steal home-court advantage in what can only be expected to be a thriller of a series yet to come. Game 2 takes place on Thursday.
