The Federal Court of New York has convicted American citizen Lu Jianwang of allegedly running a secret police station on behalf of the Chinese government. This station was operating in the Chinatown area of Manhattan. Lu Jianwang, 64, also known as Harry Lu, was working for China’s Ministry of Public Security, according to prosecutors. The jury found him guilty of acting as an illegal agent of the Chinese government and obstructing the investigation. According to US officials, this alleged police station was started in early 2022. This was going on across the entire floor above a ramen stall. It was shut down in late 2022 after an FBI investigation began. Prosecutors said that after receiving information about the investigation, Lu and his co-accused Chen Jinping had deleted text messages with Chinese officials. FBI Assistant Director James C. Barnacle Jr. said that the station was used to target anti-China people and democracy supporters. Chen Jinping, the second accused in the case, had accepted the charge of conspiring as an agent of China in December 2024. At present his punishment is yet to be decided. Human rights organizations claim that there are more than 100 such alleged outposts of China in 53 countries of the world. It is alleged that through these, Chinese citizens and democracy supporters living abroad are monitored. However, China has been denying these allegations. China says that these are only ‘service stations’, where administrative help is provided to citizens living abroad. Dela Rosa, 64, has been present at the Senate complex since Monday. The International Criminal Court has accused him of committing crimes against humanity along with former President Rodrigo Duterte. The ICC alleges that thousands of people were killed in the anti-drugs campaign between 2016 and 2018. The court on Monday confirmed the arrest warrant against Dela Rosa. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that no government agency was sent to the Senate to arrest dela Rosa. He said that the legal process is going on in the Supreme Court. Dela Rosa has been a close ally of former President Rodrigo Duterte. A campaign against drugs was launched during the Duterte government, in which thousands of people died. Former President Duterte was arrested in March 2025 and sent to The Hague, where he is in ICC custody. However, he has denied all the allegations.
