30-year-old Priyanka Mishra, resident of Gorakhpur, died under suspicious circumstances on just the 14th day of her marriage at her in-laws’ house in Mission Compound, Jhansi. At around 4:30 pm on Monday evening, Priyanka fell down from the second floor, after which she died in the hospital. Husband Shubham claims that Priyanka was joking by hanging her legs on the parapet and fell due to loss of balance. However, the family members of the deceased have termed it as a well-planned conspiracy and dowry death. Now the police have taken the CCTV footage into custody and have taken the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law into custody.
Met through marriage website
According to the information, the relationship between Priyanka and Shubham was fixed through a matrimonial website. After this meeting that took place about one and a half years ago, the marriage was solemnized with great pomp on April 28 with the consent of both the families. Priyanka was well educated, she had done double MA and B.Ed in English, while Shubham had studied BAMS. After the wedding, the reception was held on May 2 and there was a happy atmosphere in the house, but on Monday, during the dinner ceremony of the married couples, this horrifying incident happened.
Questions are being raised on husband’s theory
At the time of the incident, husband Shubham was present on the terrace with Priyanka. Shubham says that both of them were talking and Priyanka jokingly sat down on the railing with her legs hanging. Despite being refused, she did not agree and fell down. However, Shubham could not answer why both of them had gone to the terrace in the scorching heat. The police is now investigating this aspect closely whether it was just an accident or a dispute.
Parents accused of dowry murder
As soon as the news of Priyanka’s death was received, the family members who came from Gorakhpur were crying and in bad condition. Brother Ratnesh alleged that since the marriage, the in-laws were demanding gold jewellery, Rs 10 lakh in cash and a four-wheeler. Priyanka was being harassed when her demands were not met. Family members say that Priyanka was very intelligent and she could never do such a dangerous act. They suspect that he was taken to the terrace and pushed as part of a conspiracy.
Last call and police action
Priyanka had called her mother just 20 minutes before the incident, but could not talk. Family members believe that she wanted to tell them something important. According to SP City Preeti Singh, on the complaint of the mother’s side, an FIR has been registered against the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law and they have been taken into custody. The police is trying to get to the bottom of the matter on the basis of CCTV cameras installed in the house and the post-mortem report so that the real cause of death can be revealed.
