An Indian national, who was among four tourists who were hospitalised after mysteriously losing consciousness at a cafe in Thailand’s Phuket, has died, the Indian embassy here said on Tuesday.

The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear.

The embassy said it has been in touch with the Thai authorities and it’s closely monitoring the incident in which four Indian tourists fell unconscious in Phuket on May 9 and were subsequently hospitalised for treatment.

“Our deepest condolences for the death of one young Indian tourist among them,” the Indian mission said in a post on X.

“The Embassy officials are in contact with the family of the deceased to extend all support in this hour of grief. We remain in contact with the relevant Thai authorities who are looking into the incident, and also following the health situation of the others,” it added.

The embassy did not give further details on the incident.

Local officials reported that the incident occurred early Saturday in the Kamala Beach area of Kathu district, according to Thai media.

Security staff at the cafe said that five Indians arrived together at the cafe around 11 pm on Friday. About 1.54 am, four of them reportedly lost consciousness one by one. They were rushed to the hospital, the Bangkok Post reported.

Around 2 pm on Saturday, police were informed that one person had died. The remaining three were reported to be in stable condition, the paper added.
