Steve Kerr has agreed to a new two-year deal with the Warriors, extending his stay despite Golden State missing the playoffs and facing an uncertain future.

Steve Kerr isn’t walking away from the Golden State Warriors just yet.

After weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future, the longtime Warriors head coach has agreed to a new two-year contract extension that will keep him in Golden State through at least the 2027-28 season, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The deal ends months of speculation that Kerr could step away following one of the most disappointing seasons of his tenure.

Golden State stumbled to a 37-45 finish this year and missed the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, a far cry from the dominant dynasty that once ruled the NBA.

And when the Warriors’ season officially ended in the Play-In Tournament, Kerr sounded like a man unsure whether he would return at all.

As the final buzzer echoed around the arena, Kerr shared an emotional embrace with franchise cornerstones Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen next, but I love you guys to death,” Kerr told them. “Thank you.”

The moment immediately fueled speculation that the end of an era could be approaching.

Even Kerr himself acknowledged the reality facing aging championship teams.

“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr later admitted. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There’s a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas and all that.”

Instead, for now at least, the dynasty’s architect is staying put.

Kerr’s Dynasty With Warriors

Since arriving in 2014, Kerr has overseen one of the most transformative eras in NBA history.

Together with Curry, Green and former star Klay Thompson, the Warriors revolutionized modern basketball with their pace, spacing and three-point-heavy offense.

The results were staggering: four NBA championships, six NBA Finals appearances, and a decade-long run as the league’s defining powerhouse.

Kerr’s overall record with Golden State now stands at 604-353, giving him a .631 winning percentage across 12 seasons. Only Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat has served longer as an active NBA head coach.

According to reports, Kerr’s new agreement also keeps him as the highest-paid coach in the NBA, continuing a salary believed to be worth roughly $17.5 million annually.
