Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Oath Ceremony Live Updates: Days of uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu ended on Saturday after actor-politician Vijay secured the backing required to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly, paving the way for the formation of the first non-DMK, non-AIADMK government in nearly 70 years.
Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats, clinched the support of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), taking the tally in his favour to 120.
Shortly after receiving letters of support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan, where he was formally invited to form the government.
Vijay will be sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium at 10 AM on Sunday. The Governor has also directed him to prove his majority on or before May 13.
