Leeds United took a big step toward Premier League survival with a 3-1 win over already-relegated Burnley on Friday.
Goals from Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin lifted Daniel Farke’s side nine points clear of the relegation zone, with four games left for those below them.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Leeds, still smarting from their FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, came out sharp.
Stach opened the scoring inside eight minutes, his low strike slipping past Martin Dubravka. The hosts controlled the first half but had to wait until just after the break to put the game to bed.
A slick move early in the second half saw Okafor finish after a clever backheel from Calvert-Lewin set up Jayden Bogle.
Moments later, Calvert-Lewin added a third, his 13th of the season, tapping in after Dubravka parried Ao Tanaka’s effort.
Burnley’s Tough Season Continues
Burnley, who were narrowly beaten to last season’s Championship title by Leeds, have struggled in the top flight and are heading back down.
The club parted ways with manager Scott Parker just a day earlier, with Mike Jackson taking interim charge.
Loum Tchaouna grabbed a late consolation, but it did little to change the outcome.
Leeds now sit 14th in their first season back, looking to avoid the common fate of promoted teams dropping straight back down.
