This post quickly went viral on X and Facebook. Indian users strongly objected to this and criticized the airline. After the controversy escalated, Nepal Airlines issued an apology within 24 hours. The airline said this was a ‘cartographic inaccuracy’ and such a mistake would not be made in future. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Aviation Ministry are preparing to lodge a diplomatic protest with Nepal regarding the matter. The returned items include a $2 million bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara, which was stolen from a museum in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Apart from this, the idol of dancing Ganesha stolen from a temple in Madhya Pradesh is also included. A red sandstone Buddha statue, estimated to be worth around $7.5 million, has also been returned. This statue was also smuggled to America. The Antiquities Trafficking Unit of the Manhattan District Attorney has so far recovered more than 6200 cultural objects, whose total value is more than $485 million. Of these, more than 5900 items have been returned to 36 countries. Officials said that there are still many artefacts abroad, investigation and action will continue to bring them back.
