A 19-year-old former domestic help, accused of raping and murdering the daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service officer in south Delhi, allegedly entered the family’s home by taking advantage of their trust.

“Aunty had called,” accused Rahul Meena allegedly said to gain entry into the house.

Meena had worked with the family for around eight months before being dismissed. He reportedly told investigators that the family had treated him well, paying him Rs 20,000 a month along with bonuses. Despite that, officials say he used the same trust to re-enter the house on Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, the accused knew the layout of the house, where keys were kept, and the daily schedule of the family, details he allegedly used to enter the house when the victim was alone.

He reached the house early in the morning, around the time the victim’s parents had stepped out for their routine gym visit, leaving her alone.

Attack And Assault

CCTV footage shows Meena entering the colony around 6:30 am and heading to the terrace study room, where the 22-year-old victim, an IIT graduate preparing for the UPSC exam, was studying. Police said he allegedly tried to overpower her by strangling her, and when she resisted, attacked her with a lamp and another heavy object, inflicting severe injuries. He is further accused of raping her while she was unconscious.

The accused then dragged the victim downstairs to open a locker using her fingerprint on a biometric scanner with the intention to rob the house. However, it did not work, possibly because she had died by then, police sources said.

Later, using a screwdriver, he broke open the locker and allegedly stole cash and jewellery. Police said approximately Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh may have been taken from the house.

Meena further changed his clothes and footwear before fleeing.

Arrest Made In Dwarka

The accused was later tracked down to a hotel in Delhi’s Dwarka and arrested, police said, adding that charges of rape, murder and robbery have been invoked in the case.

During initial interrogation, the accused claimed robbery was the motive, but police suspect sexual assault may have been the primary intent, citing a similar crime reported in Alwar less than 24 hours earlier.

Investigators are also probing whether resentment over his dismissal from the job played a role.

He was produced before the Saket Court on Thursday that sent him to a four-day judicial custody.
