BJP President Nitin Nabin on Thursday accused the Opposition of politicising the North-South divide over delimitation, saying the very law being questioned today was framed when they were in power. The BJP leader joined for an exclusive interview with Rahul Joshi, MD & Group Editor-in-Chief, Network18.

In the interaction, Nabin said the Opposition was raising objections to a framework it had itself created, questioning whether it lacked confidence in its own laws and why any alleged gaps were not addressed earlier.

‘Opposition Playing A Political Game’

Nabin said the Opposition was attempting to create a divide between northern and southern states for political reasons. He alleged that leaders like Rahul Gandhi were undermining the interests of southern states while claiming to protect them.

He added that the government has only proposed to move forward based on the existing delimitation framework while expanding representation, particularly for women.

Debate Over Reservation And Delimitation

The remarks come after voices in the Opposition argued that the 33 per cent reservation for women could be implemented within the current Lok Sabha strength without linking it to seat expansion or delimitation.

During the Rahul Joshi mentioned that the Opposition’s stand is that reservation should be implemented within existing parliamentary seats, questioning the need to increase seats or redraw constituencies.

Govt Open To Discussion, Says BJP

Nabin said the Centre has expressed willingness to consider amendments to address concerns raised in Parliament. However, he alleged that the Opposition’s approach was driven by a “negative mindset” and aimed at stalling the process.

He also argued that increasing the number of seats could significantly boost women’s representation, saying that if implemented, the number of women MPs would rise substantially across states.
