Indian central agencies have recorded a marked increase in coordination and meetings between Hamas and Pakistan-based terror organisations following the Pahalgam attack, officials familiar with the matter have told News18.
Sources said that agencies have characterised the The Pahalgam incident as bearing tactical hallmarks consistent with Hamas-style operations, pointing to similarities in planning methodology and execution. Since April 2025, at least four verified meetings between the two sides have been documented across multiple locations, with two occurring in close succession, a pattern officials interpret as deliberate, coordinated outreach.
Sources also claimed that a few gatherings were done secretly at different locations identified by Indian agencies.
The engagements have spanned Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, two cities of Pakistan, and two locations in Bangladesh, signalling a broadening geographic scope. Groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are reported to have been involved.
Intelligence officials, on the condition of anonymity, say the emerging pattern suggests the relationship has moved beyond ideological alignment towards potential logistical and operational cooperation, including possible exchange of tactical and operational knowledge. Some officials have flagged the role of established regional networks in facilitating these contacts, likely planning a secondary base.
Agencies have alerted based on ongoing intelligence monitoring. Even so, the reported surge in contact has heightened concerns within the security establishment about a deepening convergence of capabilities and intent among transnational militant actors across the region.
Precisely 75 days since senior Hamas leaders were seen in public at a high-profile rally and conference in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), an event that also saw the top leadership from terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Lashkar-e-Mustafa (LeM), Jammu and Kashmir witnessed its most lethal civilian-targeted terror attack in more than two decades.
Pahalgam attack: Hamas-style strike
The attack closely resembles the October 7, 2023, Hamas strike on Israel that led to all-out war.
The modus operandi, target selection, and coordination are uncannily similar, though the violence is at a different scale.
Sources also said that agencies had inputs on the planning of an attack in J&K.
The terrorists used the route from Poonch that is nearest to the site where the conference was conducted, sources added.
