Abhishek Sharma made an emotional revelation about his father after his stunning innings against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday. The left-hander was in sublime touch in the IPL 2026 clash, scoring an unbeaten 135 off 68 balls, hitting 10 fours and as many sixes, as Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a 47-run win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Abhishek spoke about a long-standing ritual with his father that dates back to his Under-12 days. He revealed that his father has consistently offered guidance from the stands, especially when he is at the non-striker’s end, advising him on shot selection and game situations.

He added that the same routine continued during the match against the Capitals and said he would like cameras to focus on his father next time, capturing his reactions and involvement during the game.
“I mean to be very honest, I don’t know how but since my Under-12 days, my dad has been sitting next to the screen all the time and in Hyderabad as well. He is always sitting there and whenever I am at the non-striker’s end, he always tells me how to play a certain shot,” Abhishek said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“So, it’s still going on. I want one of the cameras to go to him from next time and just see his reactions.”
ABHISHEK DEDICATES CENTURY TO SISTER
After the Sunrisers were asked to bat first, Abhishek raced to his fifty off just 25 balls before accelerating further to bring up his second IPL century in only 47 deliveries. The 25-year-old also dedicated his century to his sister, who missed the match in Hyderabad due to illness caused by an infection.
“My sister is missing because she had some infection. So, this is for you as well,” Abhishek added.
With his century, Abhishek equalled Virat Kohli’s record for the most centuries by an Indian batter in T20 cricket. He was named Player of the Match and also climbed to the top of the season’s run-scoring charts, amassing 323 runs from seven matches at an average of 53.83 and an impressive strike rate of 215.33.
