Michael Carrick has refused to shut down speculation around Marcus Rashford potentially returning to Manchester United once his loan spell at Barcelona wraps up.
“I just think there’s decisions to be made in time, really, on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,” Carrick said.
“But at this point in time nothing’s been decided… and it will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say.”
Barcelona Future Uncertain
Rashford, 28, hasn’t featured for United since December 2024. After a short stint at Aston Villa, he made the switch to Barcelona where he’s quietly put together a solid campaign with the La Liga leaders.
But here’s the twist: Barcelona are reportedly hesitant to trigger the £26.1 million buy option. That indecision leaves Rashford in limbo heading into a crucial summer with a World Cup on the horizon.
With two years still left on his United contract and a potential 25% wage bump if the club secures Champions League football, the stakes are high.

Carrick’s comments don’t exist in a vacuum.

“From my perspective, whoever’s here, I want to work with, make the best out of and help them improve,” Carrick added.
“So at the moment, it’s this squad… and whatever happens with that later on will happen.”
