Tech companies launch a new model of mobile every year and claim that the new one is better than the previous one. Oppo has recently launched K14, an upgraded version of K13. The price of both is almost equal… a little less than Rs 19 thousand. We used this phone for a month.
Let us know whether this phone is value for money or not…
Design: With Metallic Finish
You get everything from the charger to the cover in the box, no need to buy anything separately. Talking about the design, the phone looks good, there is a new pattern at the back and the camera module has been made a little more premium than before, which has been given a metallic finish.
The overall build of the phone is the same as before, but the major change here is in the IP rating. Where earlier only IP65 rating was available, now Oppo K14 also has IP69 rating. That means it is completely protected from high-pressure water jets and dust.
It has got SGS 5-Star and MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification, which means it will not get damaged easily if dropped or shocked. The phone is available in colors like IC Blue, Prism Violet and Prism White. The front has a large 6.75 inch screen with thin bezels.
Oppo K14: Specifications
Display: The company had given AMOLED display in Oppo K13 launched last year, but in the new K14 it has been removed and a 6.75 inch LCD display has been installed. Leaving AMOLED and going to LCD is a ‘downgrade’ for customers. This has made the video watching experience dull.
However, it supports 120Hz refresh rate and has a peak brightness of 1125 nits, which ensures good visibility even in bright sunlight. It also has a splash touch feature, which allows touch to work even with wet hands.
Performance: Last year’s model had a Snapdragon processor, whose benchmark score was around 7 to 8 lakhs. This time Oppo has used MediaTek Dimension 6300 octa-core processor, whose score is only between 4 to 5 lakhs.
Such a processor is usually found in phones with a budget of Rs 10,000. That means the company has made huge cuts in terms of processor and storage. The phone runs on software based on Color OS 15. To keep the phone cool during gaming, a super cool VC cooling system has been installed in it.
Sound and Camera: Like the previous phone, it also has dual speakers. In the camera department, there is a 50MP main camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor at the back. The photos from the phone are good in daylight.
Earlier there was a 16 megapixel camera in the front, but now it has only an 8 MP camera. Smart features like AI Eraser 2.0 are available in it.
Battery and Charging: For power backup, Oppo has kept a 7000mAh battery, but this time the charging speed has been reduced to only 45 watts as compared to 80 watts of the previous model. This means that the big battery which you used to charge quickly last year, will now have to wait twice as long to get it fully charged.
However, the company claims that it gets fully charged in about 92 minutes. It also has support for reverse charging.
Final Verdict: If you are thinking of buying an Oppo phone, then the previous K13 may be a better option than the new K14.
