There’s resting your key players, and then there is Diego Simeone — who hit factory reset on his Atletico Madrid squad this past weekend.

Ahead of Atleti’s massive UCL second-leg showdown with Barcelona, Simeone rolled out an ENTIRELY different XI against Sevilla during their La Liga clash on Saturday.

No half-measures — just full-blown “save the stars for later” energy.

And honestly? You can’t blame him.

After all, Atletico are sitting pretty with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg at Camp Nou, thanks to strikes from Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth. With a Champions League semi-final spot within touching distance, La Liga rotation suddenly feels like a small price to pay.

Rest Now, Worry Later

Big names like Antoine Griezmann and Ademola Lookman were given the night off, presumably with their feet up and eyes firmly on April 14 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Simeone’s message? Why risk tired legs when you’re 90 minutes away from something big?

So out went the usual suspects, and in came a fresh-faced XI tasked with holding the fort while the main cast gears up for Barcelona.

They didn’t, but that matters very less to Simeone — whose side already seems comfrotbaly placed for a Champions League finish.

All Roads Lead to Tuesday

Atletico don’t need fireworks in the second leg — just control. Keep Barcelona quiet, and it’s job done.

And if that means throwing Sevilla a curveball lineup? Well… Simeone won’t be losing sleep over it.
