Day after Rajya Sabha MP oath, Nitish Kumar’s belongings moved out of CM’s house

Nitish Kumar’s belongings are being shifted out of his official residence even before he formally resigns as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The development has been reported just a day after the JD(U) supremo took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. According to sources, Kumar’s belongings are being moved out of the official chief ministerial residence at Patna’s 1 Anne Marg to another government bungalow located on the 7 Circular Road in the city.

However, he is expected to fully vacate the 1 Anne Marg residence only after stepping down from the helm of the state government. Sources say the house at 7 Circular Road has already been prepared for his arrival. The address has acted as a residence for Kumar on multiple occasions in the past as well. For instance, he stayed at the house in 2014, when Jitan Ram Manjhi became chief minister.

Additionally, whenever maintenance work was carried out at the official CM bungalow during his tenure, he would temporarily move to the 7 Circular Road house.

END OF AN ERA

On Friday, April 10, Kumar was sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha. The moment marked the end of an era for the political landscape of Bihar as the 75-year-old has the distinction of being the longest-serving CM of the state. His impending resignation is likely to take place soon.

Sources have previously told India Today that Kumar is likely to resign as Bihar’s CM on April 14when the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA’s) legislative party is expected to elect his successor.

They have also said that Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary is the favourite to succeed the veteran statesman.

Prior to his oath-taking as an MP, Kumar had resigned as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30. The JD(U) supremo was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, and he had to quit as an MLC in the 14-day period after his election.
