Iran shuts Strait of Hormuz after alleged ceasefire violations and Israeli strikes on Lebanon, Khamenei vows retribution, compensation and a new phase of strait management

Iran-US-Israel War: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday said that Iran would move the management of the Strait of Hormuz into a “new phase” and demanded compensation for all losses, stressing that the country would not relinquish its rights while viewing the broader “Resistance Front” as a unified force.
In a statement read out on state TV, the Supreme Leader said, “Iran will seek retribution for attacks on it and will take management of the Strait of Hormuz into a new phase.”

He also warned that Tehran remains determined to “take revenge” for those killed in the war despite the ceasefire, signalling a hardline stance even as diplomacy unfolds. He claimed that although Iran did not want a war, he said that it would not give up its rights.
“We will certainly demand compensation for each and every damage inflicted and the blood price of the martyrs and the compensation for the wounded of this war,” he said.
Describing it as a grave act by enemies of Iran and Islam, he said, “Forty days have passed since the dreadful crime of enemies of Islam & Iran, the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Leader of the Islamic Ummah and truth seekers, and Master of martyrs of Iran & Resistance, the Great,” he said.
Less than 24 hours after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran, Tehran has shut down the Strait of Hormuz over alleged ceasefire violations, forcing oil tankers to turn back and sharply escalating tensions in the region.
It also announced alternative navigation routes for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, citing the risk posed by sea mines in the main shipping channel.

The closure of the narrow maritime chokepoint disrupted global energy markets and heightened geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.
The strait has remained a central pressure point in the ongoing conflict, with Tehran using control over the passage as leverage amid hostilities involving Israel, the United States and Iran-backed armed groups in the region.
