On most evenings, a normal wedding hall is filled with music, chatter, and the steady flow of rituals. But in Mandya’s Nagamangala, one such celebration briefly transformed into a cricket arena, reflecting just how deeply the RCB wave runs through Karnataka.

At the MRP community hall, what was meant to be a wedding videography setup became the centre of attention for an entirely different reason. As Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the LED wall arranged for capturing wedding moments was repurposed to stream the live match.

Rajanna, one of the guests at the wedding, told News18 Kannada, “I was kind of missing the match already but couldn’t miss this wedding since we are family. Most of us were sneaking into our phone screens and sharing scores in between. When the match started playing on the LED screen, we were super excited and didn’t move an inch from our chairs.”

A Wedding Pauses, Crowd Unites

Guests who had gathered for the wedding reception of Lavanya and Puneeth Kumar were soon drawn to the screen. Conversations shifted from family updates to match predictions, and attention moved from the stage to the scoreboard. At one point, the reception itself was paused as guests chose to watch RCB’s innings unfold.

It was complete devoted participation – the kind that only cricket, and particularly RCB, seems to evoke in Karnataka. The bride and groom, who themselves are ardent fans of RCB, joined the mood and watched the high-voltage match for some time before getting back on stage.

Inside the stadium in Bengaluru, RCB were putting on a show. Batting first after losing the toss, the team piled up a commanding 250 for 3 in 20 overs, setting a target of 251 runs.

Cheers From The Hall To The Stadium

Back in Mandya, every boundary and six drew cheers that echoed beyond the wedding hall. For a brief period, the celebration took on a different energy, one driven by the collective excitement of watching their favourite team dominate.

Shruti L, another family friend attending the wedding, told News18 Kannada, “I had plans to go watch the RCB match live in Bengaluru with friends. But when this wedding date clashed with the match, I was a little disappointed since my match plans had to be cancelled. But the huge screen in the reception just made my day. Even the bride and groom joined the fun. It was awesome. We will always remember this wedding because of the match.”

Once the innings concluded, the reception resumed almost seamlessly, as if cricket and celebration had found a way to coexist. RCB’s impact has always gone beyond the field, but moments like these highlight how deeply the team is woven into everyday life in Karnataka. From city streets to small-town wedding halls, the team’s matches often become shared experiences that cut across occasions. In this case, a wedding did not lose its significance. It simply expanded to include another celebration.
