The government on Wednesday said all Indian seafarers in the Persian Gulf are safe, adding that two LPG carriers have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past two days.

Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mukesh Mangal, said no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels had been reported in the past 24 hours. He added that 16 Indian-flagged vessels, carrying 433 Indian seafarers, are currently in the Western Persian Gulf region.

“In the past two days, two Indian-flag vessels, Green Sanvi and Green Ashacarrying LPG, have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz,” Mangal said.

He said the government is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the safety of seafarers and uninterrupted operations, but did not specify a timeline for the vessels to reach Indian shores.

At least nine Indian-linked vessels have so far transited the strategic Strait of Hormuz, even as the key maritime corridor remains under strain amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran, unsettling global oil markets and disrupting energy flows.

Another Indian-flagged vessel, Green Asha, safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, after Green Sanvi transited the passage on Friday night carrying around 46,650 metric tonnes of LPG.

The vessels that have recently crossed Hormuz include Shivalik, Nanda Devi, Jag Laadki, Pine Gas, Jag Vasant, BW Tyr, BW Elm, and Green Sanvi.
