In a strong signal of rising demand for cooling products, LG Electronics India has said it has crossed 1 million air conditioner (AC) sales in the January-March quarter of 2026, marking its fastest-ever start to a summer season in the country.

The company said the milestone reflects robust execution, strong distribution and growing consumer demand for energy-efficient appliances, reinforcing its leadership position in India’s highly competitive AC market.

A key factor behind the record performance was LG’s early rollout of its new Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)-compliant AC portfolio, which allowed both retailers and consumers to transition smoothly to updated energy standards ahead of the peak summer demand. This was complemented by a high-decibel marketing campaign during the ICC Cricket World Cup, which helped boost brand visibility and consumer engagement.

“Crossing 1 million AC sales in a single quarter is not just a commercial milestone – it reflects the trust that millions of consumers place in LG,” said Hong Ju Jeon, managing director of LG Electronics India. He added that India remains a strategically important market, with the company continuing to invest in localisation, innovation and manufacturing.

As part of its expansion plans, LG said it is scaling up AC production through its upcoming plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in line with the government’s Make in India push.

The company also expects demand momentum to continue into the next quarter, aided by improving affordability. Senior executive Sanjay Chitkara said the recent reduction in GST on air conditioners — from 28 per cent to 18 per cent — could further accelerate adoption, especially among first-time buyers.

LG attributed the strong sales to its broad-based product strategy, spanning entry-level to premium segments. During the quarter, it expanded its portfolio with offerings such as a 0.8-ton AC targeting compact urban homes and a 2.0-ton 5-star rated range aimed at premium households. It also strengthened its fixed-speed AC lineup across both window and split categories to capture demand across price points.

The 2026 AC range includes features tailored for Indian conditions, such as remote pre-cooling, internal auto-cleaning for dust-heavy environments, and real-time energy consumption tracking to address electricity cost concerns.

Beyond the domestic market, LG Electronics India continues to export locally manufactured ACs to markets including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and parts of Southeast Asia, underlining India’s growing role as a manufacturing hub.

The strong start to the season comes amid rising temperatures and increasing penetration of cooling appliances in India, driven by urbanisation, higher disposable incomes and policy support for energy-efficient products.
