Sharp Fall In Vote Share

The decline of the Left is clear in the numbers. In 2011, even after losing power, it had more than 40 percent vote share. This dropped to about 21 percent in the 2016 Assembly elections.

The fall continued in the 2021 state polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Its vote share came down to nearly five percent. This steady drop shows how much support the Left has lost over time.

BJP Rise Changes The Game

At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party has grown fast in the state. Its vote share reached around 40 percent in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections and also in the 2021 Assembly polls.

This shows that many voters who earlier supported the Left have now shifted to the BJP.

Strategy Under Question

The Left strategy is also being questioned. Its leaders have taken a strong stand against both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. They call them Bijemool and accuse one of corruption and the other of polarisation.
