The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has issued a yellow warning for multiple districts of Telangana, predicting intense thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds until Thursday. Temperatures across the state are expected to hover between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius.

What does today look like?

Hyderabad woke up to an unsettled sky on Wednesday, April 1, with the IMD warning of partly cloudy conditions and the possibility of rain, thunderstorm, or duststorm through the day. Similar weather is expected to persist on April 2.

The warning is not limited to the city. Twelve districts are on alert for intense spells of thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 kmph — Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy.

What lies ahead?

The IMD has issued a general weather alert for April 4 and 5, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the state. However, the department has not yet named specific districts where conditions are expected to be severe.

Across the border, the Amravati MeT Centre has attributed the weather change to an active trough and predicted light to moderate rains in several districts of Andhra Pradesh. Four districts — Alluri Sitarama Raju, Srikakulam, Kurnool, and Nandyal — have been specifically warned of thunderstorms.
