Fourth time the charm? Well, Spurs surely will be hoping so.

Just days after parting ways with Igor Tudor, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on their next managerial gamble: Roberto De Zerbi.

According to TalkSportthe North London club have made a breakthrough in talks with the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss, who is now expected to take charge in what would be Spurs’ fourth managerial appointment in under a year.

Rapid Reset After Tudor

Tudor’s tenure lasted just 43 days, yielding five defeats in seven matches before both parties agreed to part ways.

Adi Hütter had been linked with the role but ruled himself out, accelerating Spurs’ move for De Zerbi.

The Italian, who recently left Marseille, had initially been reluctant to return to management before the end of the season. But reports suggest that his stance softened over the weekend, allowing negotiations to progress quickly.

High-risk, High-reward

Spurs are reportedly offering De Zerbi a five-year contract, a bold move given his managerial track record.

He has only surpassed 90 matches at a club once, with several of his roles ending within 30 games. His exit from Marseille earlier this year followed a disagreement, raising questions about long-term stability — something Spurs have sorely lacked, too.

If appointed, it is believed that De Zerbi would also become one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League, behind only Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.

Survival: The Primary Objective

For all the talk of style and long-term vision, the immediate objective for Spurs remains stark: survival.

Tottenham are currently 17th in the league, hovering just above the relegation zone. A return of around eight points from the remaining fixtures could be enough to stay up, but recent form offers little reassurance.

And the worst part? Spurs’ current situation offers little margin for experimentation by De Zerbi.

Because if this appointment doesn’t work, Spurs may find themselves in the Championship next season.
