The fifth day of the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 in Raipur witnessed a decisive shift in momentum, with wrestling taking centre stage and several states strengthening their positions in the medal standings.

Jharkhand, Himachal Excel In Wrestling

The opening day of wrestling competition in Ambikapur saw Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh secure two gold medals each.

Jharkhand opened its account through Poonam Oraon, who registered a composed 6-3 victory over Telangana’s Geetha K in the women’s 50kg final. Anjit Kumar Munda followed with a commanding performance in the men’s 67kg Greco-Roman category, clinching gold by technical superiority.

Himachal Pradesh matched that tally, with Navish Kumar winning the 97kg Greco-Roman event and Priyanka Chaudhary claiming gold in the women’s 62kg category, both delivering assured performances.

Mizoram Impress in Weightlifting Finale

In weightlifting, Mizoram concluded their campaign on a strong note, securing two gold medals. Zosangzuali (+86kg) and David Zohmingmawia (+110kg) finished atop the podium, taking the state’s gold tally to four and elevating them to fifth position overall.

Arunachal Pradesh also made significant gains, with Sambo Lapung’s gold-winning lift of 299kg in the men’s 110kg category helping the state move into third place in the standings.

Milestones For Emerging Contenders

Jammu and Kashmir opened their medal account with an impressive showing in wrestling. Munir Hussain secured gold in the men’s 74kg freestyle category with an 11-1 win, while Shama Hoon added a silver in the 97kg Greco-Roman event.

Maharashtra also recorded notable success. Sakshi Burkule dominated the women’s 86kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 150kg, while Vinod Salkar added a wrestling gold in the men’s 125kg freestyle competition.

Medal Standings

Karnataka continue to lead the overall standings with 15 gold medals, maintaining a clear advantage over Odisha, who are second with nine gold medals. Arunachal Pradesh’s rise has taken them to third place, while hosts Chhattisgarh, despite adding two medals, have slipped to ninth.
