Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has applied to become the Chancellor of Britain’s prestigious Oxford University.
Imran Khan, who has been in a Pakistani jail for a year, has applied to become Chancellor of Oxford University in Britain. Imran’s advisor Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari gave information about this on social media.
Bukhari said that Imran has agreed to contest the elections. He has submitted the application form for Oxford University Chancellor Election 2024. This election will be held on October 28. For the first time in the 800-year history of Oxford, online voting will be held for the Chancellor election.
“If he becomes chancellor, he will be the first person of Asian origin. This will be a great achievement not just for Pakistan but for the whole of Asia and the rest of the world,” Bukhari said.

Imran Khan was jailed in August last year on a number of charges ranging from corruption to inciting violence.
Imran has been a student of Oxford
Nominations for candidates closed on Sunday. Oxford said that the list of candidates will be released in early October. Oxford has not released the final list but according to some reports, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Theresa May and Boris Johnson are also going to contest the elections.
Apart from this, some women have also applied for the post of Chancellor. If they are selected for this post, they will be the first female Chancellor in the history of the university.
Imran Khan is an alumnus of Oxford. He received a degree in economics from Keble College, Oxford University in 1972. He has served as Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.
Oxford Chancellor resigned in March
Oxford University Chancellor Lord Chris Patten announced his resignation in February this year. 80-year-old Patten was Chancellor for 21 years. He took office in February 2003.
Lord Patten previously served as the 28th and last British Governor of Hong Kong. He was President of the Conservative Party from 1990 to 1992. He was elected as Chancellor after the death of Roy Jenkins. He is the first Chancellor not to die in office since the Duke of Wellington in the 19th century.
Patten is the 159th person to hold the post of Chancellor of Oxford since 1224.

Lord Patten takes up the post in March 2023. He is only the fourth Chancellor of Oxford in the last 90 years.
Imran’s chances of winning are less
More than 2.5 lakh current and former students will vote in the election of Chancellor of Oxford University. Graduates of this university get the opportunity to become Chancellor. According to the new rules, whoever becomes the new Chancellor will get a tenure of 10 years.
Registration is required to contest the elections which will be done by August 18. The date of the election has not been announced yet. According to The Telegram, Imran Khan’s chances of winning are less because apart from 3 former Prime Ministers of Britain, there are many other big names in the race.
