Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Zelensky met in Italy on June 14. Many issues were discussed in this meeting held during the G-7 summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine on 23 August. Ukrainian President Zelensky had invited PM Modi to visit Ukraine. Ukraine became a separate country in 1991. After that no Indian Prime Minister has visited there. Before Ukraine, the Prime Minister will be in Poland on 21 and 22 August. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in the last 45 years. Earlier, Morarji Desai had gone there in 1979.
The Ministry of External Affairs has informed about the Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine. MEA Secretary Tanmay Lal said – India has relations with both Russia and Ukraine. The Prime Minister will also discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine war there. Earlier, the Prime Minister had gone to Russia, where many issues were discussed. PM Modi spoke to both Putin and Zelensky on the phone on March 20. He reiterated India’s stand on the Russia-Ukraine war.
Lal said that Prime Minister Modi has spoken to Ukrainian President Zelensky on several occasions. After several such meetings in the last one year, they will now meet again in Ukraine. He said that so far 16 packages of medicines, medical equipment and power generators have been given to Ukraine. So far, about 135 tonnes of relief material has been sent there. Ways to continue the help in the future will be considered.
Modi visited Russia last month, Zelensky was unhappy when he hugged Putin
During Modi’s visit to Russia, Putin welcomed him very warmly.
PM Modi visited Russia on 8 and 9 July. There Modi hugged Putin. On this, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media – It is disappointing that the leader of the world’s largest democratic country hugged the world’s bloodiest leader. In fact, on the day Modi and Putin met, Russia attacked a children’s hospital in Kiev, in which 41 people died.
Putin hosted a private dinner for Modi, gave him the highest honour
He had reached Russia after 5 years. During Modi’s 2-day visit, President Putin had arranged a private dinner for him. Putin had taken PM Modi in his golf cart to show the stables. During this time Putin himself was driving. Putin had given Modi Russia’s highest honour ‘Order of St. Andrew the Apostle’. This is given to the best performing civilian or people associated with the army.
In Moscow, Putin gave Prime Minister Modi Russia’s highest honour, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
PM Modi also said in Russia- War does not lead to peace
Modi had told Putin, ‘As a friend, I have always said that there is no path to peace from the battlefield. Peace is not possible amidst bombs, guns and bullets. Dialogue is necessary for a solution.’ In response, Putin had said, ‘We are grateful to you for the solution you are trying to find for the Ukraine crisis.’ The PM also raised the issue of terrorism during the talks and said that terrorism remains a threat to every country.
The meeting of the two leaders took place at a time when the NATO conference was going on. America had also criticized the timing of Modi’s visit to Russia.
In Italy, Zelensky invited Modi to visit Ukraine
PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 14 before the G7 summit in Italy. The two leaders also hugged each other. During this, PM Modi talked about resolving the war through dialogue and diplomacy. Zelensky then invited PM Modi to visit Ukraine after the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Modi and Zelensky met on 20 May 2023 during the G-7 meeting held in Hiroshima, Japan.

The Russia-Ukraine war started in February 2022
