Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated the Centre has formed the committee to draft the chapter. KK Venugopal will be a member along with Justices Indu Malhotra and Aniruddha Bose.

The Centre told the Supreme Court on Friday that it has formed an expert committee with two former Supreme Court judges and a former Attorney General to review the class 8 NCERT book chapter about corruption in the judiciary.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi that the committee includes senior advocate and former Attorney General KK Venugopal, former Supreme Court judge Justice Indu Malhotra, and former Supreme Court judge and current National Judicial Academy director Justice Aniruddha Bose, along with a vice chancellor.
Mehta said, “We have formed the committee to draft the chapter. Mr KK Venugopal will be a member. Justice Indu Malhotra will also be part of it. We have also asked Justice Aniruddha Bose from the National Judicial Academy to join.”
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition by former NCERT member Pankaj Pushkar about a passage in an older class 8 textbook that said, “recent judgments tend to view the slum dweller as an encroacher in the city.”
The court refused to accept the petition, saying the judiciary should not be too sensitive about healthy criticism.
The Chief Justice said, “It’s a viewpoint about a judgment. That’s healthy criticism. Why should the judiciary be so sensitive about that? This part of the book explains the structure of the judiciary, how they work, what they have done, and also highlights some good things. Then it says there are also Court judgments that people believe go against the best interests of common people. This is a viewpoint about a judgment, and people have the right to criticise our judgments.”
