Chelsea are facing competition from English Premier League rivals Newcastle United for FC Koln winger Said el Mala. The former see the teenager as the ideal signing for the team after his brilliant Bundesliga season.
As per KickerChelsea are looking to strengthen their attack with a left-winger who can also operate through the middle. The club views the FC Köln star as an ideal fit and have been monitoring his performances throughout the season.
El Mala has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, despite starting only 12 games. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are also in pursuit of the winger and are stepping up efforts to bag the German teenager.
The update comes just days after former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Brighton & Hove Albion were leading the race for the winger.
“Brighton have a good record of unearthing this type of talent. They looked at making a move in January, but that did not happen. Now, there are going to be other clubs in the Premier League and abroad in the summer,” Brown said.
“The problem will come if a team like Bayern Munich come in with the financial power they have; they could make a huge offer. They could blow Brighton out of the water and there isn’t too much that can be done about that because that is just how football works; there is a hierarchy,” Brown added.
European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona, along with Manchester United, have also been linked with a move for El Mala. But the teenager has yet to decide on his next destination, while FC Köln haven’t placed a price tag on him till now.
Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign another left-winger, just months after bringing in Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens.
