UPSC CMS Notification 2026: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Combined Medical Services Examination (CMS) 2026. The online application process for UPSC CMS 2026 has also commenced on the official website, upsconline.nic.in. The last date to apply is March 31.
As per the official notice, the exam is slated to be conducted on August 2.
UPSC CMS Notification 2026: Vacancy Details
The Services/Posts to which recruitment is to be made and the tentative number of vacancies to be filled on the basis of result of the examination are as follows:-
Medical Officers Grade in General Duty – 864
Assistant Divisional Medical Officer – 450
General Duty Medical Officer in New Delhi Municipal Council – 14
General Duty Medical Officer Grade-II in Municipal Corporation of Delhi – 30
UPSC CMS 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit: The age of the applicant should not be more than 32 years as of August 1, 2026, and must not have been born earlier than August 2, 1994.
Educational Qualification: Only those candidates can appear in the Combined Medical Services Examination who have passed MBBS degree from any institute recognised by the Medical Council of India.
Only valid proof of passing the qualifying examination, that is, degree certificate/final marksheet/provisional degree certificate etc. as are normally issued to the candidates by the competent authority will be accepted, the UPSC stated.
UPSC CMS 2026: Application Fees
Candidates (except female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs 200 either by using Net Banking Facility of any bank or by using Visa, Master, RuPay, Credit, Debit Card, and UPI payment for appearing in the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2026.
UPSC CMS 2026: Exam Pattern
To become a medical officer in India, it is necessary to pass the UPSC CMS exam. This exam is conducted in two parts:
Part I: Computer Based Examination: This consists of two papers, each carrying 250 marks. It covers subjects such as General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Preventive and Social Medicine.
Part II: Personality Test/Interview: Candidates who qualify the Computer Based Examination are called for UPSC Interview of 100 marks.
Those who clear the UPSC CMS exam are appointed as medical officers in Indian Railways, Delhi Municipal Corporation and other central government organisations.
