Preparations are on to start Adi Kailash Yatra in Uttarakhand from May 1. If the weather is favourable, the administration can issue inner line permits from the last week of April. Last year, more than 30 thousand devotees had reached here, so this time a large number of pilgrims will come.

Adi Kailash is situated in the Vyas valley of Dharchula area of Pithoragarh district. From November to March, traffic remains closed due to heavy snowfall. Due to security reasons, Inner Line Permit is mandatory to go beyond Chhiyalekh in Vyas Valley, which is issued by the Tehsil Administration. Pithoragarh DM Ashish Bhatgani said,

Both online and offline facility for permit
Inner line permit for the journey to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat can be obtained offline from the SDM office located in Dharchula. Aadhar card, medical fitness certificate and passport size photograph are required for application. There is also a facility to apply online for the journey.
Devotees increased rapidly in the last five years The number of tourists coming to visit Adi Kailash and Om Parvat has increased rapidly in the last few years. After the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2023, this religious place got recognition at the national and global level. After this, the number of devotees coming here is continuously increasing.

In the year 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Adi Kailash region during his visit to Uttarakhand. Then he worshiped at Adi Kailash and Parvati Kund located in Pithoragarh district, and also visited the famous Jageshwar Dham of Kumaon.

Now know about Adi Kailash in 5 points…
1. ‘Chhota Kailash’ located in India Adi Kailash is located in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, near the India-Tibet border. It is also called Chhota Kailash. According to religious belief, after marriage, Lord Shiva stayed here for some time while going to Kailash with Mother Parvati and resided here with his sons Kartikeya and Ganesha.
2. Parvati Sarovar, Gauri Kund and Shiv-Parvati Temple Gauri Kund is situated below Adi Kailash Mountain and Parvati Sarovar is situated on the hill in front, from where one can get a grand view of the mountain. Shiva-Parvati temples and meditation places have been built on the banks of Parvati Sarovar. Situated at an altitude of about 14,500 feet, this temple was built in 1971 by the people of Kuti village.
3. Adi Kailash can be seen from Jolingkong Gunji (3200 m) is located about 70 km away from Dharchula and Jolingkong (4400 m) is located about 25 km further from there. From here one can have the grandest darshan of Adi Kailash. Parvati Sarovar is located about 2 km away from Jolingkong and Gauri Kund Lake is located about 2–3 km away.
4. Importance of Om Parvat and Lipulekh Marg While going from Gunji towards Lipulekh pass, one can see the 6191 meter high Om mountain from Nabhidhang, on the peak of which the shape of ‘Om’ is visible from the snow. Through this route, the pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar also go towards Tibet through Lipulekh Pass.
5. Border areas, permits and travel routes Adi Kailash is a border and high altitude area, hence inner line permit, medical examination and police verification is necessary to go here. For the journey one has to reach Dharchula from Haldwani, Kathgodam or Tanakpur via Pithoragarh. Dharchula is about 240 km from Tanakpur and about 280 km from Haldwani, from here onwards travel is done by local vehicles.

Adi Kailash is located within the Indian border in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, hence the journey here is considered relatively easy. For this only inner line permit, medical examination and permission of local administration is required. After the construction of the road, devotees can now reach Dharchula, Gunji and Jolingkong by vehicles and have darshan of Adi Kailash along with Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund.
At the same time, Mount Kailash is located in Tibet (China) and near it is the sacred Manasarovar Lake. Since the journey there is international, it goes through passport-visa and official process of the Government of India. This journey is considered more difficult, requiring trekking in high altitude areas and circumambulation of Mount Kailash. From the religious point of view, Mount Kailash is considered to be the main abode of Lord Shiva, while Adi Kailash is called its symbolic form or ‘Chhota Kailash’.
