The Supreme Court on Monday appointed former CJI of India Uday Umesh Lalit as the chairman of the search and selection committee for all universities in West Bengal. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice KV Vishwanathan gave the verdict on this.
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by the West Bengal government challenging the Calcutta High Court order dismissing the state government’s plea against the governor’s decision to appoint around 28 interim vice-chancellors.
The Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal had differences with Governor C V Ananda Bose over the supervisory role on such appointments.

Plane’s wheel came off during take off in America, safe landing
A United Airlines Boeing jet lost a landing gear wheel during takeoff from Los Angeles. However, it later landed safely in Denver. There were no reports of injuries on the ground or on Flight 1001, United Airlines said in a statement later. The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating the cause of the incident.
The Boeing 757-200 had 174 passengers and seven crew members on board. Earlier on March 7, a United Boeing B777-200 jet lost a tire mid-air after takeoff from San Francisco. It fell on a car in the airport parking lot. No one was injured.
