Transportation officials have warned of travel delays and cancellations over the weekend. Airports of many big cities have also been affected by this. More than 3,200 flights were canceled in the US on Saturday and nearly 4,800 on Sunday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. 10 to 14 inches of snowfall is expected in many areas of America. According to the Meteorological Department, this storm will start from the High Plains of America and gradually move towards the east. Due to its effect, there will be snowfall in big cities like Memphis, Nashville, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. Heavy snow is expected from the Southern Rockies and Plains through the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. According to the NWS, many areas from Colorado to West Virginia and Boston could get more than 12 inches of snow. Parts around New York City could see 10 to 14 inches of snow and 30 mph winds Sunday morning through Monday. Large parts of the Southeastern United States will also experience freezing temperatures. Air India canceled flights to New York Due to the severe storm, Air India has canceled all its flights to and from New York and Newark on January 25 and 26. In a travel advisory, the airline said heavy snowfall is expected in New York, New Jersey and surrounding areas from Sunday morning through Monday, which may disrupt flight operations. Air India has advised passengers to check the status of their flights and consider other options like canceling or shifting tickets if necessary. 1600 snow plows, 1 lakh 14 thousand tonnes of salt are ready to remove snow. National Guard and rescue teams have been deployed in the states declared emergency. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said that more than 1,600 snow plow machines and 1,14,000 tons of salt are ready across the state to remove snow. Salt melts the icy layer, making it easier to remove snow from the roads. Hochul has appealed to people to work from home and stock up on essential items in advance. He has appealed to be careful while removing snow, as it increases the risk of heart attack. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said thousands of sanitation workers, 700 salt spreaders and 2,200 snow plows would be deployed if up to 2 inches of snow accumulated. Subways and buses will continue to run, but people should try to stay at home. Virginia Governor said – There may be a power failure in the area for several days. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger said that there may be a power failure for several days and it may be difficult to get out of the area. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said there is no possibility of a major grid failure in 2021. He said that there may be some outages at the local level, but there will be no large scale power failure. He said that local power providers are ready. In Washington DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser has asked for National Guards for security. Trump said – Our team is ready, arrangements for 300 generators and 6 lakh blankets. President Trump has said that his government is making preparations in collaboration with state and local officials. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is also fully prepared. Trump wrote in his social media post that I have been informed about the very cold wave and snowfall in America this week. Regarding preparations, he said, “Our team is working with state and local officials. FEMA is fully prepared.” FEMA has kept 30 search-and-rescue teams on standby. Arrangements have been made for 70 lakh food packets and 6 lakh blankets. 300 generators have already been deployed.
