Karhal assembly seat of Mainpuri district has fallen vacant due to resignation of Akhilesh Yadav after becoming MP. In 2022, Akhilesh Yadav was elected MLA from Karhal but after becoming MP from Kannauj in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh Yadav resigned from Karhal assembly seat. Karhal has now become the most important seat for SP to save Akhilesh Yadav’s stronghold, while BJP is trying its best to win this seat to correct the spoiled atmosphere due to poor performance in Lok Sabha.
