A day after four Naxalites were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, two more cadres were shot dead in the same operation, police said on Sunday.
PTI quoted Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav saying the latest exchange of fire occurred on Sunday morning in the forested hills of the district’s north-western region, where a joint team of security forces has been conducting an anti-Naxalite operation.
On Saturday, four Naxals, later identified as senior cadre Dilip Vedja, who was a divisional committee member, area committee members Madvi Kosa and Lakkhi Madkam, and party member Radha Metta, were killed.
All four were active in the National Park Area Committee of the Maoists, the SP said.
The gunfight first broke out on Saturday morning in the forested hills of the district’s northwest region, where a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Naxalite operation based on inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres in the area.
On January 3, 14 Naxalites were killed in two encounters in the Bastar region, comprising seven districts, including Bijapur.
The Centre has set a deadline of March 31 to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism.
