The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the exam schedule for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) Examination (I), 2026. Candidates planning to appear for the exam can check the detailed schedule on the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in.
As per the notification, the NDA and NA Examination (I), 2026 will be held on April 12, 2026, in two shifts. The Mathematics paper will be conducted in the first shift from 10 am to 12.30 pm, while the General Ability Test (GAT) will take place in the second shift from 2 pm to 4.30 pm.
UPSC has also scheduled the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (I), 2026 on the same day. The English paper will be held from 9 am to 11 am, followed by the General Knowledge paper from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm. The Elementary Mathematics paper will be conducted in the evening shift from 4 pm to 6 pm.
The commission will release admit cards on its official website ahead of the examination. Candidates have been advised to carefully check reporting time, exam instructions and paper timings mentioned on the admit card to avoid any issues on the exam day. Entry to the exam centre will not be allowed after the gate closing time, and candidates must reach the venue at least 30 minutes before the reporting time.
The NDA and NA written examination consists of two objective-type papers. The Mathematics paper carries 300 marks, while the General Ability Test is of 600 marks, making a total of 900 marks for the written stage. Questions are asked in both English and Hindi.
The CDS written examination includes three objective-type papers — English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics — with each paper carrying 100 marks. Candidates applying for the Officers Training Academy (OTA) are exempted from the Mathematics paper. Candidates who qualify the written examination will be called for the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview.

Both NDA and CDS exams follow a negative marking system, with marks deducted for incorrect answers as per UPSC rules. No marks are awarded for questions left unanswered.
Through the NDA and NA Examination (I), 2026, UPSC aims to fill around 390 vacancies across the Army, Navy and Air Force wings. The CDS Examination (I), 2026 is expected to fill around 450 posts across the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA). The final vacancy numbers may vary depending on service requirements.
