US President Donald Trump on Friday drew attention to a second lapel pin he was wearing alongside the American flag, describing it as a “Happy Trump” pin and using the moment to underscore his political message.

Speaking at an event, Trump said the pin was given to him as a gift. “Considering the fact that I’m never happy, I’m never satisfied, I will never be satisfied until we make America great again,” he said, adding that the country was “getting pretty close.” Trump said he decided to wear the pin after receiving it, calling it a “Happy Trump.”

On the same day, during a meeting with nearly two dozen top oil and gas executives, Trump rose from his chair mid-remarks and walked over to a window to look out at the construction site of the new ballroom. “If we had a ballroom, we’d have over a thousand people,” he said, before stopping himself to take a look. “Well, I gotta look at this myself… Wow. What a view. This is the door to the ballroom,” he remarked, drawing light laughter from those present and inviting the media to observe the progress as well.

Trump described it as an “unusual time to look” at the construction but noted that the project was moving ahead of schedule. The White House ballroom project was announced in October 2025 as part of efforts to modernise the building and better accommodate large gatherings. Officials have said the construction is privately funded and does not involve taxpayer money.

According to the White House, the ballroom will be completed well before the end of Trump’s term in 2029. Trump has said the new facility will accommodate significantly more guests than existing rooms and will include enhanced security features such as bulletproof glass and drone-proof ceilings, allowing it to host major events including presidential inaugurations.
