After removing Maduro from power, Venezuela’s Home Minister and Security Chief Diosdado Cabello has come under Trump’s target.
According to Reuters report, America wants Cabello to work with interim President Delsey Rodriguez to accept Washington’s conditions and maintain peace in the country. If Cabello does not cooperate, the US may also take action against him.
The US, through intermediaries, has warned Cabello that if he protests, he could meet the same fate as Maduro. Whom America has recently arrested and taken to New York, the case has started.
However, America does not want to remove Cabello immediately, because doing so could lead to pro-government groups taking to the streets and worsening the situation.

The report says that on one hand America is trying to get Cabello (left) to cooperate, while on the other hand it is also exploring options to remove her from power and send her out of the country in the future.
American administration does not trust the opposition
According to the report, the American administration does not trust the opposition. He feels that the opposition will not be able to maintain peace at this time. America wants the situation to be under control so that its oil companies get a chance to work in Venezuela and there is no need to send American troops.
After Maduro’s arrest, there were reports of handing over power of the country to opposition leader Maria Machado. However, the Trump administration rejected this and supported handing over power of Venezuela to Vice President Delsey Rodriguez.
At present, America’s Delsey Rodriguez is being considered the most important face after Maduro. America demands from Delhi that the oil sector should be opened, drug smuggling should be stopped, Cuban security personnel should be removed and relations with Iran should be broken.

Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as interim President of Venezuela during a meeting of the National Assembly on January 5.
Cabello’s strong hold on Venezuelan power
Diosdado Cabello is a name in the Venezuelan government whose power and role are taken seriously both inside and outside the country.
According to Reuters, Cabello has been close to former President Hugo Chavez and was considered the toughest face of power in the Maduro regime.
At present he is the Home Minister of the country and has a strong hold on internal security, police and intelligence agencies. In the United Nations (UN) investigation reports, serious allegations have been made against the agencies associated with Cabello.
According to the UN, Venezuelan intelligence agencies SEBIN and DGCIM committed crimes against humanity to suppress the opposition on the government’s instructions.

Cabello (right) has been called the most repressive face in the government of Maduro (left) due to his deep hold on security agencies.
America has banned Cabello
According to the US Justice Department and Treasury, Cabello faces charges related to drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. In March 2020, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) included Cabello in the list of the world’s biggest drug traffickers.
He was accused of sending cocaine to America using government machinery. America has placed a reward of 25 million dollars (about Rs 210 crore) on him.
The US has placed him on the list of sanctioned leaders and linked his network to international drug trafficking. This is the reason why Washington is adopting pressure politics along with directly targeting them.
Relations between Cabello and interim President Delsey Rodriguez are also said to be strained. According to the Atlantic Council, the two have long been part of power, but have never been close. This internal conflict makes Cabello more important, because if he wants, he can upset the balance of power.
Cabello had closed the newspaper itself
In May 2021, he abolished the country’s most prestigious newspaper ‘El Nacional’. The newspaper had published a report on his drug links. Cabello took it to heart and filed a defamation case. Under government pressure, the court imposed a fine of crores on the newspaper.
When the newspaper could not pay the money, Cabello sent the police and confiscated their entire building and announced to build a university there.
