Tej Pratap Yadav Announces His Party Will Contest Polls In Other States Including Bengal

Jan Shakti Janata Dal president Tej Pratap Yadav on Wednesday hinted at an active electoral role for himself and his party, saying they will contest elections in all states where polls are scheduled.

Speaking after offering prayers at the ISKCON temple on the first day of the New Year 2026, Yadav said the visit marked a spiritual beginning to the year ahead.

“Best wishes for the New Year to all people of Bihar and the country. We have come to the temple to begin the New Year. Not only in Bengal but in all states where elections will be held, our party will contest there,” he said.

While Yadav did not announce specific constituencies or timelines, his statement is being seen as a clear signal that he plans to contest the upcoming elections and expand the party’s political footprint beyond Bihar.

In the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Tej Pratap Yadav’s newly formed party, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), failed to make an impact on the electoral map. The party was launched by Yadav earlier in 2025 after he was expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and there had been expectations that it might shake up politics in the state.

However, the results were a setback. Yadav contested the election from his home constituency of Mahua but finished a distant third, losing to the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate by a significant margin. None of the JJD candidates were able to win any seats in the assembly.
