Side effects of watching Reels: Reels and shorts are videos that mostly attract young and middle-aged people. These are a source of entertainment, and people like to watch them continuously.

Using social media late at night and watching reels can lead to hypertension
Research has shown that continuously watching short videos like Instagram reels, YouTube shorts, TikTok has 5 times more impact on the brain than alcohol and cigarettes.
Especially watching short videos like Instagram reels, YouTube shorts, TikTok has proven to increase the risk of many mental problems like stress, depression, difficulty in thinking, lack of concentration etc. Symptoms of loneliness and depression have also been seen in some people.
These shocking things have come to light after analyzing about 71 researches involving about one lakh people. All these results have been published in Psychological Bulletin, the magazine of the American Mental Health Organization. Apart from this, the same things have been confirmed in the analysis of 14 more researches.
Such short videos may be considered a way to pass time, but they reduce physical activity and make people hesitant in talking to others, scientists have warned. Due to this, a person may feel more lonely and may even develop depression in the future, he said.
Research published in a journal named Neuro Image has revealed that just as alcohol and cigarette addiction affects the nerves of the brain, similarly small videos also affect the brain. Because of this, scientists have warned that distraction and emotional problems may occur.
Especially at night, watching mobile while lying on the bed disturbs the rhythm of the brain and spoils the sleep. Due to this, many people are not able to remain active properly the next day, scientists have warned.
Moreover, when we watch short videos, dopamine (hormone of happiness) is released immediately and then disappears. More dopamine is released while watching a video than is released while talking face to face. For this reason, the brain feels that only watching short videos gives happiness and while talking face to face, it feels as if something is missing. Scientists say that this is a dangerous trend.
