Himachal Pradesh is fully prepared to welcome the New Year. The influx of tourists is continuously increasing in the major tourist destinations of the state, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti. Although till now there has been no snowfall at most of the hill stations, but snow is falling intermittently in Lahaul-Spiti. The Meteorological Department estimates that there may be heavy snowfall in the state on New Year, which will increase the fun of the celebration.
Record crowd expected in Lahaul-Spiti
Last year, 15,000 vehicles reached Lahaul-Spiti on Christmas and 25,000 vehicles on New Year. This time the figures may be more than double. Around 45,000 vehicles have arrived on Christmas itself and it is estimated that this number may reach one lakh on New Year. In view of the increasing crowd, the administration has made concrete arrangements.
Special traffic plan and security arrangements
Lahaul-Spiti Superintendent of Police Shivani Mehla said that a special traffic plan has been prepared for the convenience and safety of tourists. Lahaul is divided into three sectors.
- From Gramphu to Chandra Bridge
- From Atal Tunnel to Sisu Helipad
- from tandi to darcha
150 police personnel have been deployed in these sectors and check posts have been made in between. Apart from this, three rescue teams are also deployed so that immediate help can be provided in case of snowfall or any emergency.
Advisory and Appeal
The police will issue advisories from time to time, in which information about road conditions and weather will be given. Tourists are appealed to follow these instructions so that their journey remains safe and pleasant.
