Members of the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday staged a protest outside the Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri over atrocities against members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh. During the protest, the Hindu outfits demanded action against those responsible for the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mondal in the neighbouring country.
Amid unrest, Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, was lynched by a mob and his body was set on fire over allegations of blasphemy in the violence-hit nation on December 18. His brutal killing sparked widespread outrage and highlighted the deteriorating condition of minorities in the country. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the lynching, and investigators later found no evidence of blasphemy.

Following Das’ killing, another Hindu man was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district on Wednesday night, triggering further outrage. Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was assaulted around 11 pm at Hosaindanga Old Market in Pangsha Upazila and died shortly after the attack.
Earlier this week, protests were held in many parts of India, mainly outside diplomatic missions, demanding security for Hindus in Bangladesh and action against those responsible for the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das.
The recent killings have heightened concerns over the safety of religious minorities in the country. The atrocities have drawn strong reactions from Hindu organisations, minority rights groups and international lawmakers, with growing calls for accountability, justice and the protection of religious minorities amid ongoing unrest in the country.
