Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have suffered a major setback in a major corruption case in Pakistan. The special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sentenced both of them to 17 years of rigorous imprisonment in the Toshakhana-II corruption case. The court gave this verdict holding Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi guilty.
According to local media reports, this matter is related to the year 2021, when the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia imran khan Was given a very expensive Bulgari jewelery set as a gift. Investigation revealed that the actual value of this jewelery was more than 7 crore 15 lakh Pakistani rupees, but the rules were violated by purchasing it for only 58 lakh rupees. The court termed it a fraud on public trust and corrupt practices.
According to the court’s decision, Imran Khan has been sentenced to 10 years under criminal breach of trust and 7 years under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi has also been given a total punishment of 17 years under similar sections. Apart from these, a fine of Rs 1 crore 64 lakh has also been imposed on both of them. In case of non-payment of fine, additional jail sentence will have to be faced.
Imran Khan in jail from 2023
This decision was pronounced by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand in the special court room set up in Adiala Jail. It is noteworthy that Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 in various cases. Earlier in January 2025, in the Al-Qadir Trust case, Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years and Bushra Bibi was sentenced to 7 years.
High Court had put a stay on Toshakhana-I case
However, in the Toshakhana-I case, the Islamabad High Court had stayed the sentence in April 2024. Imran Khan’s legal team has indicated that they will also challenge this decision of Toshakhana-II case in the High Court.
