Senior actor, writer, director and producer of Malayalam cinema Srinivasan died on Saturday at the age of 69. He was suffering from illness for a long time and was undergoing treatment at his home in Udayamperur in Ernakulam district of Kerala.

He was admitted to a hospital in Thrippunithura after his health suddenly deteriorated. Doctors confirmed his death on Saturday morning.

Srinivasan was born on 6 April 1956 in Pattayam near Thalassery, Kerala. His father was a school teacher and mother was a housewife. He completed his studies from Kadirur. After this he did graduation in Economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur. He later studied film from the Film and Television Institute of Chennai.

Started acting career in 1977

Srinivasan did P.A. in the year 1977. Started his acting career with Backer’s film Manimuzhakkam. In a career spanning nearly five decades, he worked in more than 225 films. He got special recognition for his social satire and characters related to common life. The actor showed the struggles of the common man in films like Nadodikkattu and Pattanapravesham.

Srinivasan has written films like Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Sandesham.

Along with acting, he wrote scripts for many films. He also directed and produced some films. The film Chintavishtayya Shyamala, directed by Srinivasan, was awarded the National Film Award (1998). He was also the co-producer of the superhit film Thattathin Marayathu, which was directed by his son Vineeth Srinivasan.

He is survived by his wife Vimala and two sons. Sons Vineeth Srinivasan and Dhyan Srinivasan are also well-known names in Malayalam cinema. Vineeth has directed blockbuster films like Malarvadi Arts Club, Thattathin Marayathu and Hridayam.

At the same time, Dhyan started his career with the film Thira directed by his brother Vineeth and made his mark with comedy films like Kunjiramayanam and Aadi Kapiyare Kootamani.
