Pune’s MP/MLA Special Court heard the ongoing defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks about Veer Savarkar. The court said on Wednesday that Rahul cannot comment on any order which he has not challenged in the higher court.

Special Judge Amol S Shinde said that if Rahul Gandhi has any objection to the summoning order then he should challenge it in the higher court.

On behalf of Rahul Gandhi, lawyer Milind Pawar filed an application in the court raising questions on the old order regarding issuing summons. It said that the summons order taken by complainant Satyaki Savarkar in 2023 was obtained hastily without solid evidence and by applying pressure.

Advocate Sangram Kolhatkar, appearing for Satyaki Savarkar, took objection to the allegations and said that the order to issue the summons was given by the former judge of the court after examining all the evidence. He said that the accused party has expressed doubt on the functioning of the court.

It was said in London that Savarkar had beaten a Muslim.

Rahul is accused that in March 2023, Rahul Gandhi, in a speech in London citing VD Savarkar’s book, had claimed that Savarkar and his five to six friends had once beaten up a Muslim man and they were happy with it.

Citing this speech, Satyaki Savarkar has filed a defamation case against Gandhi. He said that no such incident happened nor did Savarkar write anything like this.

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Milind Pawar had said in Pune court that Rahul’s life is in danger. During the hearing of the Savarkar defamation case, Rahul’s lawyer Milind Pawar gave a written information in the court saying that the danger to Rahul Gandhi has increased after exposing the case of “vote theft”.

Had given controversial statements on Savarkar earlier too

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra on November 17, 2022 in Akola district of Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi had commented on Savarkar in a rally. Showing a letter in front of the media, he said that this letter was written by Savarkar to the British. In this he had said that he would remain a servant of the British. He also apologized out of fear. Gandhi-Nehru did not do this, so they remained in jail for years.

Rahul had said, ‘Gandhi, Nehru and Patel remained in jail for many years and did not sign any letter. Savarkar ji signed this paper because of fear. If you weren’t afraid you would never have signed. When Savarkar signed, he betrayed India’s Gandhi and Patel. Told them also that Gandhi and Patel should also sign.

The Supreme Court had reprimanded on 26 April

The Supreme Court had reprimanded Rahul Gandhi on April 26 for his objectionable remarks on Veer Savarkar. The court had said that we cannot allow anyone to speak ill of the freedom fighters. They gave us independence and what are we treating them with. The Supreme Court had said,

Advocate files complaint against Rahul in 2023

On June 14, 2023, Lucknow-based advocate Nripendra Pandey had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the court of Additional CJM. In his complaint, Pandey alleged that Rahul had called Veer Savarkar a ‘servant of the British’ and a ‘pensioner’ in Akola.

He claimed that the press conference was telecast live on a news channel. Pre-prepared press notes were also distributed among the journalists attending the press conference. Pandey had accused Rahul Gandhi of making this statement with the intention of spreading hatred and unrest in the society.
